Looking for Writing and Reading Ideas this December and January? Try this interactive writing journal about ice skating that will practice narrative and Informative writing skills. These make for a great practice "take home" weekly writing and reading practice.
How I use these in my classroom
DAY 1:
Create a word wall and poster for students with all the vocabulary. This printable provides most words, but you can think of more with your class.
My favorite thing about these printable writing pages are the visuals. This is created for ALL levels of writers. Students have the most used words and vocabulary related to the topic inside their printable booklet. This helped my class be so much more independent during the writing process. There is also an extra word box you can do with the whole class for other words they want in their story. This page is especially helpful for my reluctant writers and my ELL students.
Next, you can have your students pick 3 - 5 vocabulary words they will be using and they can write their list of words on the writing page provided.
Word Wall and Planning Page
DAY 2:
After going over all of the words and having students pick their words on Day 1 you will start the planning page on the second day. Students can either draw pictures in the boxes or they can label the pictures they drew. This graphic Organizer will allow for differentiation.
Rough Draft: Paragraph Writing
Day 3- 5:
For the rest of the week, students will work on their topic sentences, middle, and conclusion sentences. You can either do a narrative writing piece as seen in the picture here. Or you can choose the Informative writing paper as seen at the bottom.
